Water system maintenance program set to begin

Pinellas County, Florida -- The method of water treatment utilized by Pinellas County and its wholesale customers will be temporarily modified between May 29 and June 17, 2013. This short-term change from chloramine to chlorine disinfection is a routine maintenance measure designed to optimize water quality.

Aquarium launches campaign for movie funds

Clearwater Beach, Florida -The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is asking supporters to write Governor Rick Scott, urging he approve $5-million for another movie about Winter the Dolphin.

"Clearwater Marine Aquarium needs to enlist your help with a letter writing campaign to Governor Rick Scott," wrote CMA Development Vice President Linda Kay O'Reilly to Friends of CMA, "to persuade him to support the State Budget's allocation of $5 million to help secure a sequel to Dolphin Tale."

Tiger has four-pound hairball surgically removed

Clearwater, Florida -- It's a typical story of a cat with a hairball... only the cat weighs about 400 pounds, and the hairball is so large it can only be surgically removed.

Ty the tiger underwent the procedure on Wednesday afternoon at BluePearl Veterinary Partners emergency hospital in Clearwater.

CSX railroad construction replaces railway ties

Pinellas County, Florida -- Three CSX railroad crossings in Clearwater will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic from Wednesday, May 29 to Tuesday, June 4.

The reason for the closure is due to railroad tie replacement and construction. The following CSX railroad intersections will undergo railroad tie replacement and are scheduled to reopen by Wednesday, June 5:

Governor Scott in Clearwater Beach Thursday

Clearwater Beach, Florida -- Gov. Rick Scott will be attending a function on the north beach this week.

He is scheduled to attend the Florida Council of 100 meeting Thursday evening at theSanpearl Resort.

The nonprofit organization was formed in 1961 at the request of then-Governor Farris Bryant to provide advice to him on key Florida issues from a business perspective.

Clearwater Beach, Florida - The U.S. Postal Service said Friday it will consider a request by the Clearwater Beach Association to move back to the Beach Marina one of two mailbox serving the beach.
