Pinellas County, Florida -- The N.O.P.E (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) Task Force presented scholarships to three high school students to help cover college costs. 

The NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) Task Force, Pinellas Chapter, recently presented three high school seniors with scholarships during award presentations at Dunedin, East Lake and Largo High Schools. A total of three scholarships were awarded during the ceremonies; one for $1000, one for $750 and one for $500.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas County Human Society has a goal: get 999 dogs and cats adopted in three months. 

To kick-off this event, there is a name your price adoption event with a special Preview Party on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

There will also be games, face painting (for kids), an Ask-A-Trainer booth, and much more. 

The goal is to have 150 cats and dogs find new homes this weekend!

The event will be held at 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater, Florida. 

Stingray season is back

Stingray season is back

Clearwater Beach, Florida -- It's time to do the "Stingray Shuffle" again.

Beach patrols report they've seen an increase in stingray injuries recently.

The city says purple warning flags are posted to warn beachgoers that stingrays are in the water.

"It is important for all beachgoers to do the 'stingray shuffle' when entering beach waters," the city advises. "By shuffling your feet in the sand, you will scare off any stingrays that might be around."

Florida hosts free saltwater fishing on Saturday

Tallahassee, Florida -- Florida likes to consider itself the fishing capital of the world and this weekend everyone gets a chance to enjoy it for free.

Saturday is a license-free saltwater fishing day in Florida. Anyone can cast a line from shore, a pier or a boat without the usual fishing license that costs $17.

Amanda Nalley of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says you have many fishing opportunities around Florida with its 1,200 miles of coastline.
