New sidewalks for North Beach parking lot

Clearwater Beach, Florida -- New sidewalks are being built on the north beach parking lot.

After replacing parking meters with pay stations, the city is ripping up the sidewalk on the Mandalay Park side of the Rockaway parking lot and replacing it with a wider sidewalk, according to Tracey Bruch, the city's parking system manager.

"We also determined that the beach side sidewalk was in need of repair and felt it was a good time to make this improvement," Bruch stated.

Only one quarter of the parking spaces will be blocked off at a time while the work is going on.

The beautification extends to Mandalay Park itself. The city has removed weeds and will install a short sand wall about 28 inches high to prevent sand from blowing into the park and to help contain blowing sand in the winter months.
