Centennial lecture spotlights the 50s | Arts & Culture
Continuing the recognition of the 100th birthday of Pinellas County, Heritage Village history lecture series presents the urbanization that transformed Pinellas County during the 1950s as developments replaced old groves and farmlands. “Home Rule” brought political power to the local level, while cold war industries fueled the vibrant economy. This free program begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11.
Award-winning author Angela T. Pisaturo returns to Heritage Village to host workshops on Friday, March 2, at 10 a.m. The series of workshops will be unique and will cover aspects of writing historical novels, from research to setting the scene. There will be extensive handouts provided at each of the three-hour workshops. The cost for each workshop is $15, and $13 for Pinellas County Historical Society members.
National Quilting Day
Heritage Village hosts it National Quilting Day Celebration on Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Five guilds from Pinellas County will be displaying quilts and demonstrating how to make pillows as an armrest for children to use while receiving an IV. Children attending will assist in stuffing the pillows and making one to take home. Other projects will be making heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer survivors, small fleece blankets stitched then donated to firefighters and policemen who may then give them to children they rescue from frightening situations.
Heritage Village is located at 11909 125th St. N. in Largo. This living history museum brings more than 150 years of local history to life. Tour more than 28 authentic buildings and structures, and experience historical Pinellas County through hands-on exploration. Paths wind through 21 acres and connect with the Florida Botanical Gardens and the Pinewood campus.
