Burger, coffee franchises coming to the beach

Clearwater Beach, Florida - Another franchise restaurant and coffee shop is coming to Clearwater Beach this year.

Union Burger, a hamburger and hand cut fries chain based in Ontario, Canada, will open this summer at 454 Mandalay, the building that formerly housed the Beach Bar.

Union Burger will occupy one side of the building, according to company vice president George Karamountzos, and Coffee Culture, a coffee shop, will occupy the other.

Work crew began gutting the building this month. The task of turning it into a new establishment will take several weeks. If all goes as planned, the grand opening is expected toward the end of August, Karamountzos said.

Why would a Canadian-based company make Clearwater Beach the location for its first branch in America? Karamountzos said he and his family have been visiting Clearwater for many years, they love the area and believe the beach is a great location for expanding their business.
