Clearwater Public Utilities earns two water conservation awards

Clearwater, Fla. -- The American Water Works Association (Florida Section) has presented the City of Clearwater's Public Utilities Department with two Water Conservation awards.

The organization serves water quality professionals responsible for protecting the clean water environment, and encourages contemporary water conservation and use of alternative water sources across the county.

The city earned Water Conservation Awards of Excellence in these categories:

Christmas tree recycling in Pinellas County

Please recycle your Christmas tree. Trees will be chopped and processed into mulch then made available at 20 free mulch sites (see www.pinellascounty.org/utilities/mulch).

How to prepare your tree for recycling:

Clean: Remove all decorations, including hooks, garland, tinsel and lights.

Loose: Tree should be loose. Do not use a bag or trash can.

Free access: For apartments or condos, place a tree near the dumpster without blocking access to it.

Gift and Plant Sale is a natural for the season

The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation will present their second annual Gift and Plant Sale on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the formal gardens at Florida Botanical Gardens.

This special event will feature more than 45 vendors selling a unique collection of flowers and plants, including orchids, hibiscus, iris, bromeliads, native plants, herbs and citrus. Specialty vendors will offer an assortment of items perfect for holiday gift giving, including clothing and accessories, outdoor and garden pieces, select food items, crafts, ornaments, candies and more.
