Cast a vote for Clearwater as Ultimate Fishing Town | News

Clearwater, Florida -- Your vote could help bring another distinction to the city, along with a cash prizes to promote fishing-related causes.

The World Fishing Network has nominated the city as the Ultimate Fishing Town - a title that will be decided by an online vote.

From now through May 31, users can vote four times a day (once every six hours) via email by logging on to www.worldfishingnetwork.com/uft/vote/clearwater-fl.

To help make it's pitch, the city put out a reminder about what residents have going for them:

Clearwater has the largest fishing fleet on Florida's West Coast, and residents and visitors can fish by boat, pier, or from the shoreline.

Clearwater's famous fishing landmark is Pier 60, running 1,000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, and it is open 24/7, and offers illuminated night fishing. The Pier boasts several record-breaking catches and species including Snook, Tarpon, Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Spotted Sea Trout and Sheepshead.

The downtown piers let you fish the Clearwater Harbor and Sand Key waters. The waters surrounding Clearwater are renowned for Tarpon, Shark and reef fishing with charters and head boats from the Clearwater Beach Marina.

Grand prize in the competition is a $25,000 donation to be used toward fishing-related causes in Clearwater. Second plane brings a $5,000 prize, third is $2,000.

The winners will be announced June 6.
