Police charity softball game

Clearwater, Florida -- The Clearwater and Largo Police Departments will team up to take on the Tampa Police Department in the 10th Annual Charity Softball Challenge. The game will benefit the three children of Tampa Police employee, Deanna Mendoza, who was the victim of a domestic homicide on January 24, 2013.

Marcus Jones, mixed martial arts fighter and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer will guest star on the CPD team. You may also recognize Jones as a cast member of Spike TV's Ultimate Fighter.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- To mark the St. Petersburg and Clearwater tourism industry's record-breaking year in 2012, the city is changing up Tourism Week Events for 2013.

Join in on the first-ever Tourism Tailgate, an informal event where the city will celebrate Tourism Week with a review of 2012's impressive stats, then share some examples of the rockin' creative  planned for the upcoming 100 Days of Summer to keep the momentum going.

The tailgate will take place at Ferg's Sports Bar and Grill at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12.

Clearwater, Florida -- Women from across Pinellas County are getting off the couch, reclaiming their lives and moving. These women are known as the FAB 50 team.

This Saturday, April 13th they will be a part of a flash mob performance at the Athleta Iron Girl Expo Event at Coachman Park in Clearwater. The FAB 50 team is made up of women of all ages, shapes and sizes.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Today, in Pinellas County, the Florida Department of Transportation is kicking off a safety and education campaign to increase public awareness regarding pedestrian safety. 

FDOT is teaming up with the Tampa Bay Rays and will be present at the game today to hand out free safety materials to fans.

Pinellas County preserve has new April programs

Pinellas County, Florida -- Many hiking opportunities are available at Weedon Island Preserve in April.

Regular two-hour guided hikes begin at 9 a.m. each Saturday. Participants learn about the ecosystems and early residents of Weedon Island Preserve while hiking the coastal uplands and along boardwalks through mangrove forests. The hikes are best for ages 6 and older.

"Winter" draws crowds despite cold weather

Clearwater Beach, Florida - The cold weather may keep visitors away from the beach, but it's not hurting the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

The CMA reports Tuesday's attendance was the third highest ever recorded at its main facility on Island Estates. Highest ever attendance is reported at the Winter Dolphin Tale Adventure in the downtown Harborview Center.

This, says the CMA Management, is proof the facility's ability to attract tourists is sustainable, bolstering its quest for a new $160 million aquarium on the site now occupied by City Hall.

Clearwater, Florida --  Mayor George Cretekos and the City Council has made March 16 official Clearwater Bombers Day. 

The Historical Society is sponsoring the 5th Annual Reunion of the Bombers from 10:00a.m. until 1:00p.m. at the Historic Plumb House Museum at 1380 South Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Clearwater.    

All of the former Clearwater Bomber players have been contacted and between and between 20 to 30 will be present to meet their fans, pose for pictures and sign autographs.
